My dear octopus,
Relationships are hard.
It doesn’t matter if they are created from family, friends, work or for… romantic purposes?
And even though we don’t have a say in the cards we were dealt with in life, we can create our own environment. We can built our own circle. We get to choose who affects our lives.
Making sure that this environment outside of the one that you were put in is healthy, it’s essential for your growth, for your well-being and for you as a person.
That’s also why it’s good to get out of your comfort zone. Little by little or like me, jumping in the deep end and figuring it out as I go.
In that family of the heart, the mind and the soul, make sure you bring not only people with the same mindset as yours but also ones that challenge your thinking. To expend your empathy, your capacity to love and express it.
That’s why to me, friendships are the relationships that make me grow the most.
Because I choose to love them as much as they choose to keep me in their lives.
And it’s OK for you to let go of people that hurt you, that disrespected you and that didn’t invest as much as you did for them. That didn’t value you or made sure to learn from your fights.
And the same goes for them to you.
So make sure that people that you care about, that you love, that you want to cherish… know it. Show them how important they are to you.
Because each day that passes that you don’t get to tell them you love them, it’s a day that is lost.
That’s a memory you didn’t create, that could’ve been great and that you could’ve hold onto in hard times.
And when hard times cross your path or awaits in a corner, you need all the hope, strength and love you can get.
I octopus you,
Mhay An.
